The defence ministry has identified about 25 projects that would be thrown open for private sector participation in the coming weeks. Some of the products, which have been showcased at the Make in India Week have been short-listed and the government would hold further discussions with the industry to take it forward.
“We have initially shortlisted these. There will have to be many interactions with the ministry and other stakeholders to finalise them,” said A.K. Gupta, secretary, defence production, ministry of defence. However, Mr Gupta refused to divulge details about the size of each project.
While addressing a seminar at the Make in India Week, Mr Gupta said private sector manufacturers have an opportunity to pick up a 25 per cent share of defence production.
The defence sector public undertakings have a cumulative turn-over of about Rs 45,000-50,000 crore.
