Vir Das, who is currently riding on the success of his second US Comedy Tour, will be seen playing a serious character in his upcoming film 31st October, a biopic on 1984 riot survivor Davinder Singh. Sources inform us that Vir had the chance to meet a few real life victims of the 1984 riots. It all started when a man who had come to witness Vir’s show met him and informed him that he is related to a family who were victims of the riot. The guy informed him that his grandfather survived in the riots and moved to Canada post the tragedy.
Knowing this, Vir took time out from his tight schedule and paid a visit to the family. He conversed with the family members and was glad he got a chance to meet them. When contacted Vir about this incident, he said, “While I was in Vancouver for a show, I was approached by a guy who came to me talking about my upcoming film, 31st October. He told me about his grandfather who has witnessed the incident back in 1984 and wanted me to meet them. I was apprehensive at first because I understand that it would be difficult time for them and recalling the scenario would be tougher. However, after meeting them I was elated that they have overcome the obstacle. They were glad to know that a film is being made on the incident. It’s beyond our understanding what these people would’ve gone through.”
