After months of speculation about a troubled marriage, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and celebrity hairstylist Adhuna Bhabhani Akhtar have decided to separate. The duo has been married for 15 years.
On Thursday afternoon, Farhan and Adhuna issued a joint statement, which said they were parting ways.
“This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate,” the statement read. “Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner.”
While the couple made their decision to separate public only this week, reports about a possible split have been doing the rounds for a while now. The speculation was further fuelled when Adhuna was a no-show at the red carpet events connected to Farhan’s latest release Wazir. Later, Farhan put in solo appearances at Dabboo Ratnani’s calendar launch and Hrithik Roshan’s birthday bash as well. Farhan and Adhuna tied the knot in 2000 after dating for three years. They are parents to two girls — Shakya and Akira. Adhuna, who is the name behind brands like Juice and B:Blunt, has styled for nearly every film that Farhan has been a part of.
