: The scriptwriter of ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, has been arrested by the police for having allegedly been involved in a shootout in 2009.

Ram Abhishek Singh aka Kera Singh was detained by a Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police on August 3.

Singh, then 19, was apparently involved in the shootout that took place in Azamgarh that left two victims deceased and three injured. The motive was believed to be a property dispute between the Singh’s family and the victims.

Though his father and uncle were reportedly arrested in relation to the case back in 2010, Singh has been in the run. There was a bounty of 50,000 rupees declared on his uncle’s head while Singh himself carried one of 30,000 rupees.

Singh reportedly used aliases such as Kera Singh, Rohit Singh and Baljinder Singh after moving to Mumbai, to dodge the cops.

The STF had received a tip that there were several parallels between the Kera Singh they had been seeking and a certain Rohit Singh living in Mumbai, and employed with K9 Productions which incidentally is the producer of The Kapil Sharma Show. When the officers searched Singh's home in Andheri, Mumbai, they found an Election Card belonging to Kera Singh.

Singh had married a woman employed in a multinational firm, who presumably wasn’t aware of his murky past.

The co-accused, Singh’s father and uncle, are out on bail and living in Allahabad, currently.

Singh, a Mass Communications and MBA graduate, which aided him in finding a job in the entertainment industry in Mumbai. He was also a part of the comedy show The Great Indian Family Drama and had several minor roles on TV before he commenced work with K9 as a scriptwriter.
