While Shahid Kapoor is more than delighted to be a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious project, Padmavati, the actor believes that the project falling on his lap was a matter of perfect timing.

“I’m happy Padmavati happened to me now,” he says as he settles for a quick chat. “I feel that this is a great opportunity that’s been bestowed upon me. And this is the right time for me, I feel, to be able to put in my best as well. It’s coming to me because I’m ready for it.”

Shahid however, doesn’t appreciate reports that call it a two-hero film. “In fact, this is a movie in which Deepika Padukone gets to perform a fantastic role. Ranveer Singh too has a great role, and I have a grand role too.”

The actor also adds that he was floored with Bajirao Mastani, SLB’s last outing. “After watching the magnum opus, I was vocal on Twitter about it merely because the film was undoubtedly fantastic work by Sanjay Leela. Therefore I couldn’t resist praising the film. Moreover, Bajirao was loved by the audiences too and that’s indeed the biggest thing for any filmmaker as well as for all others involved in the film.”

Padmavati will trace the story of Rani Padmavati, the second wife of Raja Ratan Singh of Mewar, and Allaudin Khilji, who, enamoured by her beauty, wages a war to capture her. Deepika will be playing the pivotal role of Padmavati, while Shahid will essay Raja Ratan Singh. Ranveer Singh, who played the hero in Bajirao Mastani, will be the villainous Khilji.
