Bollywood actors Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam visited the capital to promote their recently released flick Junooniyat, directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The duo will be seen together once again, after their chemistry created sparks in Sanam Re. In the film Yami Gautam plays Suhana, a young, carefree girl-next-door. “Suhana’s character has come closest to my real self so far. She is fun and very passionate about everything she does,” she said.
Talking about the training she underwent to get into the shoes of her character, Yami shared, “I worked extensively on my dancing skills as I had to shake a leg with Pulkit. Dance flows through him effortlessly. I wanted Suhana to be different and unique in her style, and not just another Punjabi girl, so I aimed at adding subtleties to her character which makes her exuberance infectious.”
While Pulkit humbly kept dismissing Yami’s claims of being an accomplished dancer, he did accept that playing an Army captain was challenging. “Jahan Bakshi is devoted towards his country and his family. The script explores the various shades and hues of his love and life. I had to ensure that the audience could see the transition of an Army brat to a charming lover and their distinctness wasn’t blurred.”
Walking down memory lane, the actors shared their experiences of shooting in the Kashmir valley. “During night shots we couldn’t help but fumble with our dialogues. Only after many takes would we get the shot straight. Also, we needed permissions from the Army base to shoot there. Continuous shooting sequence left our limbs frozen but our junooniyat for the movie kept us going,” said Yami.
When the question about their much talked about on-screen chemistry, and rumours of their off-screen romance and break-up came up, the actors brushed them off, denying any truth to them.
