My film has nothing to do with Oh My God: Abhimanyu Singh

After debuting in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks in 2001, Abhimanyu Singh proved his mettle in Gulaal, followed by I AM and Ram Leela.

After debuting in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks in 2001, Abhimanyu Singh proved his mettle in Gulaal, followed by I AM and Ram Leela. The actor now promises to amaze his fans as a fake godman in his upcoming film, Global Baba. He however rubbishes any similarities between his film and Oh My God! which had Mithun Chakravarthy posing as a quack godman as well.

It seems like you have a tendency to choose grey characters in films Actually, those roles are choosing me (laughs). I feel that after Gulaal, directors are coming to me with such kind of roles — they are edgy though. I want to explore comedy and romantic genres in the future.

Does Global Baba have any resemblance to Akshay Kumar starrer Oh My God No. There is no similarity between the two films. Oh My God is a different film targeting religion and god. We aren’t talking about anything like this. Global Baba, on the other hand, deals with blind faith.

Is your role similar to that of Mithun Chakravarthy in Oh My God He is too great in front of me. I don’t stand anywhere. I don’t think there is any similarity between our characters. Both the false godmen come from different backgrounds.

What kind of homework you did for Global Baba Not much, really. Two days prior to the shoot in Benaras, I interacted with the babas and researched a bit about them. When I started shooting, I was very clear with my character and his body language.

How was your experience working with such an ensemble star cast Ravi Kishan and I go back a long way. We never overshadow each other. Sandeepa Dhar is quite competitive. Sanjay Mishra and Akhilendra Mishra are always fun. However, most of my scenes are with Pankaj Tripathi, and as always, he is brilliant. I am glad to have got the opportunity to work with such an amazing bunch of actors.

What are your next projects I am doing a film called My Client’s Wife with Sharib Hashmi and Anjali Patil, which is directed by the debutant Sudhakar Pant.
