Mahesh Bhatt has always been vocal about women power and supporting his daughters, and that translates into his work as well.

Talking about his TV show Naamakaran, the director says, “We are trying to show why a girl’s name should not be eclipsed by her husband’s,” says Mahesh, while adding, “The serial is not a remake of my film Zakhm. However, the show represents the saga of males and females in our society, which is indeed changing.”

When he talks about women, the conversation naturally steers towards his three daughters Pooja, Shaheen and Alia. And Mahesh accepts that his life indeed revolves around women right from childhood. “My mother raised me as a single woman and I got all my wisdom from her. So I have no problems listening to women and going in accordance with their thought process.”

He also feels that his daughters today are far more successful and intelligent than him. “I will never keep them tied to my identity. I believe that no woman needs to be tied to a man’s identity.”

However, he is quick to add that theirs is not a standard father-daughter relationship.

“Alia and my other daughters dominate me, they are like my ring masters,” he laughs. So does he ever rebel “I try sometimes but never succeed! I am scared of my daughters, and why not All my girls are brave and bright. In fact, at this stage of life, I feel enriched as I listen to them. The wisdom of my mother’s soul has now passed on to my daughters,” he says.

It is no surprise then that the proud father feels that only his daughters have the right to bring forth his biography. “While no biography can fully bring out the naked truth, I feel that no one else other than the girls will ever be able to do justice to it.

“Society will never accept the facts. Yes, there is still much dramatic stuff in my life which can be revealed, biography is always unfurnished truth,” he says.
