The film may have under-performed at the box-office but Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro seems to have impressed the right people. One hears from sources in the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting that Ashutosh’s film would be screened for officials in the Ministry. A source close to the I&B ministry says, “There aren’t too many films recreating Indian history for present day generations of moviegoers. The Ministry feels Mohenjo Daro could serve as reliable visual textbook reference for a chunk of Indian history.”

When we contacted Ashutosh, he reacted with joy to the news. He said, “I am delighted to know that the Secretary, Joint Secretaries and the officials of Ministry of I&B wish to see my film. It’s an honour that such great dignitaries are interested in your work. We have arranged a screening for them and hoping they all enjoy the film.”

Though Indian critics slammed Mohenjo Daro, the film continues to gather rave reviews abroad. After being selected as the closing film for the 69th Locarno International Film Festival and receiving a phenomenal response, now the 45th Annual Conference on South Asia, which is held in Madison, Wisconsin, will also be screening Mohenjo Daro on October 23.
