Mira Nair’s script had Lupita Nyong’o in tears

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Mira Nair’s upcoming drama, Disney’s Queen of Katwe is all set to release in India this October. Like Nair’s previous films, Queen of Katwe is a heart-warming and riveting drama. Based on real-life events, the film chronicles the inspiring story of an underdog from the streets of rural Uganda. It follows the young girl whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess. With the support of friends and family, she pursues her dream to become an international chess champion.

The film stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo and newcomer Madina Nalwanga. Lead actress Lupita found the script so amazing that she broke down and cried after reading just 10 pages. “It was the first time in a while that I had been so enlivened, inspired and challenged by a role I was considering,” she remembers. “I immediately sent an email to my representatives saying, ‘I must do this film.’”
