Arjun Kapoor, the latest Bollywood actor to join the TV bandwagon as the host of the current season of Khatron Ke Khiladi, talks about the show, the Tanisha controversy and more. Excerpts from an interview:
This is your first brush with hosting a show. How was the whole experience Argentina is an amazing place and I wish I had time to discover it beyond the confines of work. The whole drill was physically and mentally quite draining. For the contestants, doing the stunts in Argentina turned out to be a boon. Being completely disconnected from India helps you to push yourself. I think I have lent well into pushing all my khiladis to the extreme. So I would say, so far so good.
Did the show happen to you by accident In my interviews, whenever I was asked, I had mentioned that I would like to host a show like KKK. I never imagined that it would happen for real. The channel came to me with a clear picture of why they wanted me as host. I gathered they wanted to push the envelope and make it friendlier. I realised it makes complete sense to host it the way they are imagining it. It’s important for somebody to have a vision for you when you experiment at a young stage. I also liked the format of the show, because it’s merit based and not reliant on votes. So I’m really glad to be doing it. You are the only host so far to have done a creepy crawly stunt. Were you the one troubling the insects or was it the other way round Yes, even internationally, I am the only host to have done a creepy crawly stunt. It was important for me to earn the contestants’ respect. I did not want them to think I was fooling around. So I did that stunt right away to show them that I am like them.
Tanisha, one of the KKK contestants, said that she had an issue with your tone. Your thoughts She never mentioned it to me. I believe that I am learning all the time, so I am always correcting myself. I would like to think that she’s straightforward enough to tell me if she had felt something like that. She is like a schoolgirl who would ask me a lot of questions before each stunt. I had lot of fun with her on the show, so it’s surprising for me to hear that she said something like that. And if she truly feels that I offended her, I am more than willing to apologise to her directly. I’m not certain what the issue is. Whatever it is, the channel will sort it out with her. She seemed absolutely fine even till the last day. So if this is true, she must be having her reasons.
