: Irom Sharmila, who has been the personification of resistance for nearly two decades in the country, will now have her own biopic.
The political unrest within the north-east of India had unnerved the young lady, then 28, so much that she went on a hunger strike for the benefit of her ilk, that went on to last a good 16 years. And if all goes well, Taapsee Pannu might portray the social activist on-screen.
The film, which has tentatively been titled ‘Imphal,’ might be helmed by a debutante director.
Hansal Mehta, who’s currently working on the Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Simran,’ will be presenting the film. Hansal, who himself has helmed two supremely acclaimed biopics in ‘Shahid,’ based on deceased Human Rights lawyer Shahid Azmi, and ‘Aligarh,’ based on the infamous social ostracism of a homosexual professor, won’t be helming the project owing to his impending commitments.
Further details on the film, hence, are yet to be divulged.
Taapsee will also be seen reprising her acclaimed character from Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Baby,’ as the protagonist of the second film in the franchise.
