Actor Hrithik Roshan has been sent a legal notice for one of his tweets on January 28, where he stated that there were more chances of him “having an affair with the Pope” than the women the media had been linking him with.
Alleging that the tweet was “hurtful” to the Catholic community, president of Indian Christian Voice, Abraham Mathai has filed a legal notice against the actor.
Rizwan Siddique, the lawyer who has been representing Kangana Ranaut in an already messy legal battle with Hrithik, has sent the notice on behalf of Mathai. The notice has been filed under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code, for, “Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.” Under the section, an offender can be punished with imprisonment up to three years, fined or both.
The exact tweet was: “Ther r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope dan any of d (Im sure wonderful)women d media hs ben naming. Thanks but no thanks.”
Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Mathai said that he got to know about the tweet only last week and was shocked by it.
He said, “Hrithik can have personal problems, but why is he dragging the Pope into it. By the statement, he implies that the Pope is gay, which is an insult,” adding, “We want an apology from him, but so far we haven’t received any communication from his lawyers.”
