Producer Kumar Taurani’s son Girish will reprise the role of Bobby Deol in the ’90s blockbuster film Soldier

Producer Kumar Taurani, head honcho of TIPS films wants to remake Abbas-Mastan’s ’90s hit Soldier. Eighteen years after its release, Taurani has decided to remake the film with his son Girish Kumar playing the role that Bobby Deol did in the original flick.

A source said, “They have been keen to remake one of their own hits (that include Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Kachche Dhaage, Kya Kehna, Albela, The Legend of Bhagat Singh etc) and have narrowed down on Soldier. It had great content and music. In fact, Bobby Deol’s career reached new heights after the film and his chemistry with Preity Zinta scored with the masses. Back then it had all the ingredients of a blockbuster.” Besides, the film also has good recall value and the makers believe that it will cater to the audience’s sensibilities even today.

Speaking of where things stand today, the source added, “Kumar Taurani has just started the discussion with his team. He needs to have a strong script and is on the lookout for one. As far as Girish is concerned, he has all the traits of stepping into the character of Bobby.”

When contacted, producer Kumar Taurani said, “Yes, I want to remake Soldier but not until I find a good script.”
