AR Rahman debuts as a filmmaker

The first poster of forthcoming Bollywood film 99 Songs, scripted and produced by double Oscar winner AR Rahman was recently unveiled.

The first poster of forthcoming Bollywood film 99 Songs, scripted and produced by double Oscar winner AR Rahman was recently unveiled. Just after the release, the poster has been creating a huge buzz on the social networking sites. Reportedly, it is the story of a struggling singer, who aspires to become a successful composer. Sources say the film is not a biopic of the maestro himself. Rahman has also written the story for the film, which has been described as “a sensual story about art and self-discovery.”

The Mozart of Madras took to his Twitter account and posted, “With your support & good wishes, I’m pleased to share my movie’s first poster.”

In an earlier interview with us about his new avatar of a scriptwriter and producer, he has said that for the past few years, on long flights to the US, he was toying with some script ideas. “Writing is a nucleus of any project. It is the core vision. Since it is music based, it needed that kind of impact. I told a couple of friends here, and I took courses from one of the Hollywood filmmakers who he also started giving inputs on screenplay. So the whole journey went like that. I’ve been learning the art of script writing and screenplay and finally it has come to shape,” he had shared.

When asked about wielding megaphone, he had asserted, that he is just the creative producer apart from scoring the music for the movie. “I do not have time for direction now because that requires undivided time and attention”, the Roja composer had said. ARR’s banner YM Movies, which produced the short film Infinite Love, and Changing Seasons will be making this musical as well.

The poster features the lead pair in an elegant dance pose in the middle of the sky, with a massive piano hanging from the heavens and the hero holding onto it. Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, who has directed a TV doc-series titled Dewarists, is helming the film besides penning the screenplay.
