Police have arrested 12 people from Muzaffarabad after receiving the complaint.

Further investigation is underway and raids are being conducted to make more arrests.

Islamabad: A teenaged Pakistan girl was raped on the orders of a panchayat (village court) in Pakistan’s Multan district, police said on Wednesday.

Police have arrested 12 people from Muzaffarabad after receiving the complaint.

Police said, Umer of Basti Rajapur allegedly raped 13-year-old Uzma and her family turned to the local panchayat to resolve the matter. The panchayat then ordered that Umer’s 17-year-old sister Hafza should be raped by Uzma’s brother Ashfaq.

After Ashfaq followed the order, members of both families registered a case against the panchayat. . Muzaffarabad police later arrested 12 people including the panchayat’s head.

Police said initial investigations have revealed that Umar and Uzma were in a relationship and wanted to get married, but her family was against it and accused Umar of raping her, which led to the whole sordid affair.

Further investigation is underway and raids are being conducted to make more arrests.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif while taking notice of the incident has directed stern action and immediate arrest of all the suspects.
