Islamabad: A mutual friend is making efforts to arrange a meeting between former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif, media reports said on Tuesday. Pakistani television channels reported that backdoor contacts had been established between the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). According to reports, a mutual friend is busy in arranging a meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari in London.

“The meeting will take place very soon. Zardari is expected to reach London for the meeting with Nawaz Sharif,” reported one channel. The PPP however, said Mr Zardari had flown to Dubai and will come back from there. “Asif Ali Zardari won’t go to London,” said a party spokesperson. In the last few weeks, the PPP has attacked the Sharif family and vowed not to support them as they face corruption cases. Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Tuesday termed a top-level moot of the PML-N leaders in London as a plan to save embattled Nawaz Sharif from possible punishment in graft cases.
