Notched displays are the new definition of premium smartphones, at least for this year. Numerous popular handsets have come with these displays ever since the launch of the Essential and the iPhone X last year. Though it has become the trend, there are some companies who preferred to not use the notch, one of which is the Samsung – the brand which is already known for its big bright and beautiful AMOLED displays. Almost every other major Android manufacturer has utilised the notched display in at least one phone, Samsung’s the only exception which didn’t.

We think Samsung will stick to this in the future as well – a new patent has been filed that appears to be future Samsung phone, which has no notch in sight. The company had filed a patent at US Patent and Trademark Office this week, and the sited images of the phone showcase no bezels, no notch and the company is also ditching the headphone jack as well.

The images illustrate all screen with a tiny bezel on top for the speaker grille and camera lens, which is similar to the current flagships (Galaxy S9s). However, the small chin on the bottom is completely gone and rest of the front is all display with no bezel or whatsoever curved along the edges. And on the rear, the camera setup appears to be rearranged from centre to the top left corner. And there’ s no sight of a fingerprint scanner as well, which means this Note design inspired phone might rely only on facial recognition or most likely come with an in-screen fingerprint scanner like the Chinese contemporaries. There’s also a rectangular box kinda like a design, which might be glass as we have seen on the Pixel smartphones, which Google uses for better Wi-Fi and cell reception. It’s still unclear whether the Samsung is adapting to the same or will it be used for a new kind of fingerprint authentication.

After all the major mobile firms ditching the headphone jack, the patent images illustrate Samsung might also be carrying out the same. And, lastly, at the bottom, the images showcase the USB Type-C port in between the horizontally aligned speaker grills.

This new approach from Samsung might or might not be coming to life since it’s still in a patent stage. We can hope this might be the upcoming approach to its premium Galaxy phones’ line-up.
