Xiaomi is seemingly working on including a 108 MP camera in upcoming cellphones, after having launched cellphones with 48 MP and 64 MP cameras earlier. News portal XDA Developers reported that looking at evidence Xiaomi has included 108 MP image support in its MIUI Gallery App.

Previously, smartphone companies have included gallery support for high resolution images only when they have included such a high-resolution camera in their handset. Thus, it seems like Xiaomi is might also going along on that path.

Further in their report, while XDA mentions that four handsets are shown to be supporting a 108 MP camera, the Chinese giant’s upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 5 does not seem to be one of them. ‘This device does not find any mentions within the code suggested above’, the report read.

However, four code-named devices are going to support the sensor, these are ‘tucana’, ‘draco’, ‘umi’ and ‘cmi’.

Further, while more information is awaited it is believed that the phones will feature the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor and might be divided between the Redmi and Xiaomi brands.
