ASUS has kicked off its campaign at Computex 2018 by announcing a really high-end gaming phone, the ASUS ROG Phone. While ASUS may not be the first entrant in the gaming phone department, it has launched its upcoming device with specifications that could make any gaming junkie salivate.

The ROG Phone features a unique GameCool 3D vapour-chamber cooling system, ultrasonic AirTrigger touch sensors, an exclusive gamer-centric design with side-mounted ports optimized for landscape-mode, a vivid AMOLED display with HDR visuals, a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time for a true gaming experience. In comparison to the Razer Phone, the other gaming-based smartphone that launched in 2017 featured a 120Hz screen. However, one should expect the ASUS ROG Phone to command a better display as it is fitted with an AMOLED display.

As the ROG Phone is a gaming smartphone, ASUS has added the world’s fastest 2.96GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with a Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU. ROG has also partnered with Garena, developer of one of the world’s best-ranking survival shooter games, Free Fire. This was implemented to explore the possibilities that ROG Phone brings to the gaming scene.

ASUS Chairman, Jonney Shih, leading the presentation onstage said, Today is a celebration of those who dare to be different. Twelve years ago, ROG was founded out of our desire to create a full lineup of ultimate gear designed for gaming victory. Now, through the dedication of ROG engineers, designers, professional gamers and enthusiasts around the world, we have achieved these goals and distilled them into the essence of ROG. We will carry this spirit forward as we strive to create the next generation of gaming innovations.”

It is believed that the ASUS ROG Phone will come with either 128GB or 512GB onboard storage. We can expect it to come with 8GB of RAM. As far as camera features go, it is said that the handset will be equipped with 12MP and 8MP ultra-wide sensors on the back and an 8MP front-facing camera. There is a massive 4,000 mAh battery supporting ASUS HyperCharge, which is ASUS’s version of fast charge technology. The ASUS ROG Phone comes with three USB-C ports as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. ASUS has stated that there will be a range of peripherals and extensions that make use of all these ports. Additionally, one can use these ports for headphones; high-speed charging, HDMI output and Gigabit LAN. Some of the peripherals ASUS have announced for the ROG Phone are AeroActive Cooler, Mobile Desktop Dock, TwinView Dock.
