Starbucks debuts voice ordering

The new Starbucks app comes with voice ordering capabilities.

Popular coffee chain Starbucks announced its voice-enabled app on 30 January on the iOS and Amazon Alexa platform. The company has described it as being the “next step toward evolving the digital customer experience.”

Customers can now order and pay for Starbucks meals and beverages using their voice, thanks to the official Starbucks digital assistant. The interface, as pointed by Tech Times, function a lot like Siri. There is also the option of simply sending a text message. The new feature is an extension of Starbucks Mobile Order & Pay, which allows customers to order and pay for products before even landing on the stores.

“The Starbucks experience is built on the personal connection between our barista and customer, so everything we do in our digital eco-system must reflect that sensibility,” said Gerri Martin-Flickinger, CTO of Starbucks.

While the new feature is only available in a select few nations, Starbucks said that a broad roll-out of the voice ordering feature is planned to be pushed out throughout summer. The Android version of the app will be released towards the end of 2017.
