Facebook has announced new features for its Messenger app in order to make it more interactive. The new update adds the ability to react to the messages in one-on-one or group chats.

Users will have to press and hold any message to message bring up the love, smile, wow, sad, angry, yes, and no emojis, which can then be applied to the highlighted message. These reactions are already available for news feed items. Chat participants will receive a notification when their messages get a reaction.

Messenger also gets the ability to mention users in a group chat by using an @reply feature. Using the @ symbol and then a participant's Facebook name calls them out specifically within a conversation. The new features will be rolled out for Android and iOS users in coming weeks.
