Biometric authentication technologies for commercial services are progressing by leaps and bounds in this decade of the 21st century. We have advanced fingerprint scanners, innovative iris scanners and facial recognition. These technologies are finding themselves adopted in daily life through mobile devices and commercial digital services such as online banking and email.

However, one area in digital services hasn’t seen any future beyond traditional alphanumeric passwords – porn. Yes, if you are a member of a porn website, you have to remember sleazy passwords for gaining access to your world of fantasies. One porn website though, particularly CamSoda, wants to change that by utilising a ‘revolutionary’ verification method – ‘Penis-print’.

CamSoda members will now have to log in to their accounts by using an image of their penis. The verification process works just like the facial recognition technology found on flagship smartphone of today, which scans details of your face such as depth and shape of eye sockets, the shape of nose, chin and skin spots. With CamSoda’s method, the method will take a picture of the user’s penis and compare it with the one taken during registering for identical shape, vein protrusion and colour as well.

Darren Press, VP for CamSoda explains that “Like a fingerprint and eyeballs, which are two of most commonly, used body parts in biometric technologies; the penis has many, many differentiating factors like size, colour, and vein protrusion. However, unlike fingerprints and eyeballs, penises are not exposed to the public a lot of the time and mostly kept under clothing and shared with loved ones – presumably who are trusted.”

There are though a few visible issues with this method, the surrounding being one of the major ones. Traditional alphanumeric verification makes it easy for people to gain access to their world of fantasies anywhere, which wouldn’t be the case with the ‘penis-print’ method. Also, this verification technology doesn’t acknowledge the existing users belonging to the other gender; although the company claims that they are working on that.

One thing’s for sure – watching porn with involving verification techniques like this will surely elevate the experience to another level for discerning sexual fantasy enthusiasts.
