Google has put a new easter egg in its Phone app – a pet's paw

In the event of an incoming call, either a cat or dog paw will randomly pop up on the screen to show you how to answer it.

Whenever a new Android rolls off Google’s software labs, technology enthusiasts wait for a new easter egg that is hidden somewhere in the system. Prior to Android Nougat, the easter eggs were clones of the Flappy Bird game with an Android bouncing in between lollipop sticks. With Android 7.0, the easter was nothing more than simple animal icons, which wasn’t as exciting as the easter eggs from the previous Android versions. However, Google has put in an easter egg in the latest update of Android’s Phone app, and it is quite exciting – a cat’s/dog’s paw.

The new easter egg has been discovered by Kieron Quinn. In order to get the easter egg working, users have to dial the following code – *#*#729#*#*. Once the code has been put, you will see a “paw mode enabled” notification on the screen. After that, in the event of an incoming call, either a cat or dog paw will randomly pop up on the screen to show you how to answer it.

The easter egg currently works on 9.0 version of the Phone app. Google hasn’t given any statement as to why the “paw mode” easter egg has been put in the phone app. Does that mean other updates Google apps could be containing such easter eggs?

The paw mode surely makes the dialer screen a bit more interactive than the standard one showing an array of buttons. If you get bored of it or find it interfering with the practicality of the app, then you can re-dial *#*#729#*#* to disable the paw mode.
