AI tailor takes backseat after taking incorrect measurements

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making in-roads in almost every field, the world of fashion is not far. And although an AI tailors seems to be a perfect solution for the industry; the current startups, retailers, and investors seem to want to grab the opportunity to imbibe this recent technology. And once AI takes over fashion, it can surely expected to be a win-win situation both designers as well as customers.

For example, San Francisco start up Original Stitch, which sells custom clothes, letting customers tweak colours and patterns online. And in this process, it wants people send in a picture of their favourite garment, which the company claims to take the measurements from the respective garment by a machine vision and subsequently designing a replica (it may also create multiple units) of the same.

Going by this information, Bloomberg reporters ordered a number of shirts from this AI tailor, but the customers weren’t satisfied with the product. They had ordered for shirts and the measurements were incorrect each time. The start up has now decided that this smart service will take a back seat.

And even though this is a setback, not only for the smart device but also for the company, this will give the developers a chance to look into what is actually going wrong.

Jin Koh, founder of Original Stitch, told Bloomberg that the company was already improving its machine vision measuring tech, and that a working version could be ready by the end of the year.  He said, “Technology is going to take over a tailor’s job and do it better.”
