Sony’s PlayStation 5 is expected to arrive in 2020 and while most of the device has already been leaked over the last few weeks, a new patent from Sony shows the new controller design.
We also know that PS5 and its controllers will focus more on Player immersion and feedback. The controller will likely have more integrated technologies to provide better vibration and newer features. Sony might even call it DualShock 5. The controllers will now use haptic feedback that will target specific pressure points according to the game you play and the action you execute. So shooting an arrow and firing a shotgun from the same trigger on the controller will feel different.
The new design features a fairly different shape for the controller. The handles now thicker, somewhat resemble the Xbox controllers. This is actually a good thing since the Xbox controller designs always felt more comfortable than the PS4 DualShock controllers. The patent design also reveals the departure of the MicroUSB port for a USB-C port.
The lightbar from the old controllers is gone too, suggesting that the PS5 controllers will feature in-built trackers rather than relying on the lightbar for tracking.
