Technology, Gadgets

The Detel Marvell sells for Rs 1,849. And for that price, it is one of the best value-for-money speakers in the segment.

The Detel Marvell employs a simple design. The speaker comes in a near-oval shape, with all the output ends up front, all the control buttons on the, and all the ports behind.

Detel is one of the brands that made a recent dive into the audio product segment. After two headphones, the brand launches seven TWS speakers across various segments of specs and prices, that work independently or can be connected to each other to enhance your surround sound experience.

We review the Detel Marvell speaker today, that despite the uncanny resemblance, is not affiliated with a certain comic-book character. The speaker comes with a solid build and lots of playback options. Here’s what we think.

Design, Build

The Detel Marvell employs a simple design. The speaker comes in a near-oval shape. All the sound output comes from the front, all the control buttons are on the top, and all the ports are on the rear. There are foot stands on the bottom with a rubberised finish, that doesn’t slip and helps keep the speaker in place even on slightly slippery surfaces.

The entire body of the speaker is made up of hard plastic. With no creaky ends and wobbly buttons, this is a great build and the speaker feels like it can take a beating, despite the plastic body. This also makes the speaker lightweight and easy to carry around.

Performance

The Detel speakers offer powerful sound, which is surprisingly deep too. The sound experienced you end up listening to is not just clear but rich thanks to the 78mm drivers. One strange thing we noticed is that the volume levels of the speaker aren’t distributed evenly. You see a very slight increase in volume along most of the volume levels until the last three levels, where the bump is drastic to take it to full volume.

There are three buttons on top, the middle one of which acts as the play/pause button when music is playing. Long pressing the button switches between Bluetooth/Aux/FM Radio/Memory Card. The volume keys on either side of the button change the tracks and change the volume when long pressed.

The Bluetooth range on the speaker is excellent and unless there are walls in between, music playback remains uninterrupted from even 10 meters away.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Detel Marvell is just too good to be true. A 2-hour charge is enough to continuously play the Detel Marvell for over 3 hours in one stretch. That is some great efficiency on the speaker despite it using Bluetooth 4.0.

Verdict

The Detel Marvell speaker pretty much hits all the right spots. Yes, it’s not the most inspiring design choice, but the speaker more than makes up for its lack of style, with some powerful substance. All that aside, the unit costs below Rs 2,000.

Too good to be true? Not really. The Detel Marvell sells for Rs 1,849. And for that price, it is one of the best Value-for-money speakers in the segment. A superb option to go for if you want a loud, high-performance speaker with good range and multiple playback options, in under 2K.
