Fitbit has already cleared the air by stating that the company will keep the flames on through 2017 maintaining the horde of cloud services developer tools and APIs used by the devices and owners.

It seems that Pebble’s run in the smartwatch arena is about to end. The latest update from the storied smart wearable maker will extend the validity of its smartwatches for a bit longer by removing their dependency on cloud servers, enabling its devices to work without the Pebble services.

Fitbit has already cleared the air by stating that the company will keep the flames on through 2017 maintaining the horde of cloud services developer tools and APIs used by the devices and owners. But there’s no guarantee that this will continue in 2018.

The new update provides the users with an option to skip the login process if the authentication servers are unavailable. Pebble has also added an ability to sideload a service configuration that changes the Pebble’s server connection to allow apps to update from 3rd party services.

Users can download the iOS version from the AppStore, while the Android users will have to sideload the app from an external source until its available on the Play Store.
