Manchester United’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League look grim after a thumping 4-0 defeat against Everton.

United’s record signing Paul Pogba made a statement post the game that the players had disrespected the club with their performance and had called for a retaliating performance against Manchester City this week.

United is currently sitting sixth on the points table, fighting for a Champions League spot with Chelsea and Arsenal.

As per reports from The Guardian, three Manchester United superstars- David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku will consider leaving the club if United fails to qualify for the Champions League.

David de Gea is already 28 and might have a look at other options instead of signing a contract extension with United.

De Gea had been previously linked with many top clubs like Real Madrid and PSG. The Spaniard expressed his regret regarding the match through his twitter account.

“The way we played and the performance of myself, of the team, of everyone, is disrespectful,” said Pogba.

Pogba had signed from Juventus in August 2016 and with Barcelona interested in signing the Frenchman, it will be a tough task for United to stay hold of him.

“We didn’t respect ourselves, the club or the fans. Everything went wrong but the most important thing is the mentality that we put on the pitch, that has to change.”

He added: “I want to say [to the fans], and I know it may not be enough, but the fans want a reaction from the players and the only way to apologise to them is to give everything on the pitch.

"We don’t want to look like we did because the body language was not good enough for this shirt. You have to work, you have to sweat for this shirt and you have to give everything.”

Romelu Lukaku is bound with United until 2021, but the Belgian striker has lost his place from the first team since the arrival of Solksjaer. Lukaku would be eager to revive his career and play Champions League football next season.

United had a devastating game at Goodison Park and the club only had one shot on target.

This fact had raised many eyebrows as many fans had started to believe that Solskjaer was successful in rebuilding the team after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

United has certainly showcased results since Solskjaer’s approval but the club still needs time to compete for the Premier League and Champions League. The prime objective of the manager would be to sign top players in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Solskjær warned last week that some players needed a “reality check” and the performance at Everton will have confirmed the view.

United is looking to appoint the club’s first technical director, and the position is likely to be filled by Mike Phelan, Solskjaer’s assistant manager.

Guardian had reported in last August that whoever is appointed will undertake a position that works alongside the manager in a strategic fashion, with regard to the first-team squad and the progression of players from the academy.
