Mumbai: England lifted their maiden World Cup title on the basis of boundary count after the 50-over match and the Super Over got tied. The boundary count rule by ICC was slammed by many cricketers. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag called the match as a tie.
Sehwag tweeted and praised the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson for his spirit and calmness despite ending up on the losing side. Sehwag wrote, "New Zealand had many fans in India and today they have won many more, by their calmness and spirit. Kane Williamson, smiling after the tie. Beautiful to see #CWC19Final."
However, Michael Vaughan wasn’t quite convinced with Sehwag’s tweet as he responded to Sehwag stating, he agrees that Williamson is a great ambassador for the match, but he doesn’t accept the fact that the match ended as a tie.
"I agree on Viru .. Great ambassador for the game .. But 1 thing .. It wasn’t a tie in the end !!", Vaughan tweeted.
With the super-over win, England became the sixth country in the cricket world to win the prestigious trophy.
