While England was chasing the highest target in the tournament so far, two of their top batsmen were taken out at critical moments.

Mumbai: Pakistan’s win against England earned came after losing 11 ODIs in a row and was much needed after last week’s humiliation at the hands of West Indies.

Sarfaraz Ahmed and co, beat tournament favourites England by 14 runs in a match where the batsmen outshone their own shabby performance against the Caribbeans. They scored 348 for 8 against England, who had taken down South Africa by 104 runs in their first match.

While England were chasing the highest target in the tournament so far, Jos Buttler and Joe Root, two of their top batsmen were taken out at critical moments in the game. England could then only manage to reach 334 runs in 50 overs at the expense of 9 wickets.

Mohammad Hafeez who was playing his final World Cup won the Man of the Match after scoring 84 off 62 balls and taking England captain Eoin Morgan’s wicket. Pakistan plays Sri Lanka next on June 7.
