Mumbai: Virat Kohli's career has soared in a decade and he is currently at the top of ICC Test and ODI player rankings. Kohli has transformed from an impulsive prospect to the backbone of the Indian cricket team.
Regarded as one of the best batsmen of the current era, the 30-year-old has been associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of Indian Premier League.
Kohli is one of the few players who has represented a single franchise in all editions of the league. Even though RCB has a poor IPL 2019, Kohli continued to showcase his class by scoring 464 runs in 14 matches. He smashed a century and two half-centuries in the season.
RCB was successful in snapping up the Indian skipper at the IPL's U-19 draft in 2008 and the rest is history. But RCB was successful in acquiring Kohli only after he was rejected by Delhi Daredevils at the auction.
As per the IPL draft norms, each franchise had the option to select two Under-19 players ahead of the inaugural edition.
Delhi Daredevils decided to splash their cash on Pradeep Sangwan. Daredevils shelled out 50,000 dollars on Sangwan and hence, RCB secured Virat Kohli for 30,000 dollars. Sangwan was associated with Delhi Daredevils for three years but failed to make it big at the national level.
On the other hand, Kohli's stature has increased by leaps and bounds. Delhi Daredevils must have regretted their decision after witnessing the career growth of Virat Kohli. The decision of Delhi Daredevil's management can be termed as the fiasco of the decade.
