New Delhi: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly could be the next BCCI president, reports suggest. The Supreme Court fired on Monday Indian cricket board chief Anurag Thakur and its secretary Ajay Shirke for stalling reforms.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) head Ganguly is considered a suitable candidate as he has administrative experience as well as credibility in cricket circles, both in India and internationally.

Speculation is rife that the 44-year-old may be in line for the top job. However, he is not a vice-president of the BCCI. Also, Ganguly has a three-year tenure with the CAB that makes him ineligible for the post, according to sources.

But there are reports both suggesting and endorsing Ganguly’s ascendancy. According to an India Today report, Ganguly seems to be the front-runner to replace the sacked chief. An Economic Times report suggests that Ganguly could be asked to run the BCCI.
