In a statement released here, Arunima said she started her mission on the morning of December 12 and hoisted the Indian tricolour on December 25 on Mount Aconcagua. Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia, at 6,960.8 metres, and by extension, the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
Arunima said in the statement that, “I have successfully completed the 5th summit of the Mission 7 Summits. I have climbed Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, South America. This is also known as second Everest. After completing this I have also made World record as First Female amputee to climb 5 Mountains of the World. I will also summit rest 2 mountains and complete the goal of Mission 7 Summits”. It may be recalled that Arunima had lost her left leg in a train accident in 2011. She was awarded the Padam Shri for climbing the Mount Everest in 2013.
