When women are going into labour the last thing that is on their minds is dancing, but this doctor claims that it is an effective form of pain relief.

Dr Fernando Guedes da Cunha from Brazil shares videos on Instagram of him busting some moves with women in the labour ward.

And while the pain of childbirth is excruciating it turns out there is some science behind Dr Fernando's unique technique.

Regina Kaplan, an ob-gyn at Overlook Medical Center, New Jersey told Glamour that dancing can help the process.

She said, "The baby needs to move through the birth canal, so when mom is moving, she is assisting her baby to move through the birth canal structures as well."

Dancing helps shift the pressure of the baby pressing on maternal skeletal structures and organs.

Dr Fernando became an overnight sensation in August when a video of him dancing with a mum-to-be to Despacito went viral.

And thus Dr Fernando was dubbed the 'dancing doctor'.

In the caption, staff claimed that dancing during labour "contributes to relaxation and facilitates the birth of the baby".

Well, sure seems like a fun way to welcome your baby!
