The body of a minor girl has been lying in the morgue for at least a week as her family claims she was raped and set on fire by a 22-year-old boy she was in love with. The family insists they will not perform her last rites until justice is delivered. Police meanwhile is of the view that the girl committed suicide.
The family claims they have not received any autopsy report and police is trying to save the accused. Police has arrested the boy, who, according to the girl’s family, was her lover.
The incident occurred on December 30 when police recovered the burnt body of a 17-year-old minor girl from Jay Ambe Society. The girl’s family claims that the boy, in the name of
love, first raped her and then strangulated and set her on fire. The boy’s family claims that the girl was
in one-sided love with the boy. The girl’s family however claims that the couple’s feelings were mutual and when they refused to give the boy their daughter’s hand in marriage, he set her afire.
Police registered a case against the boy under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC on January 3 while the body of the girl was in the morgue of Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali.
