A 35-year-old woman was arrested by the Hill Line police station in Ambarnath for injuring his husband by pouring hot water on him while he was sleeping, on Thursday night.

According to the police, the complainant identified as Dilip Sharma (45) is a resident of Ulhasnagar number 5, where he was living with his wife and four children. The incident took place on Thursday night at 11pm, when Sharma was asleep at home and his wife, Hema, poured hot water on his body in anger. Sharma, whose body was scalded, lodged a police complaint in the Hill Line police station after which he was sent to Central Civic Hospital in Ulhasnagar for treatment.

“The doctors from the civic hospital said that he has suffered 45 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment. We have registered a case on the complaint given by Dilip and arrested his wife for causing grievous him injuries,” said a police officer from Hill Line police station.

A case has been registered at Hill Line police station in Ambarnath late night on Thursday under section 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian penal code. According to sources, Dilip was an administrator in a small firm but had quit his job and been unemployed for a year. The family had been living off their savings but had run out of money. Hema wanted to sell off the flat that they were currently living in to support the family but Dilip was not open to the idea. “During the investigation we found that the victim and his wife use to fight regularly as Dilip has been unemployed for the past one year. The accused, Hema, was asking him to sell the flat, but Dilip was not relenting. According to the complaint registered by Dilip, Hema wanted to leave him and marry someone else, as she has been frustrated with the burden of supporting four kids,” added the officer.

Even Hema has, in her statement, confessed that she always wanted to marry someone rich and not Dilip. She was unhappy with the routine household work and so she decided to harass Dilip for divorce.
