Owing to uncertainty over the Bombay high court’s direction to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to not permit any new construction in the city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday announced that it had decided to withdraw the bidding process for the auction of a 12,500-square-metre plot at ‘G’ Block in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) with 50,000-square-metre built-up area.

The Bombay high court in February directed the BMC not to give permission to any new construction of commercial or residential buildings in the city till all the rules of solid waste management are complied with.

The HC has also prohibited the state from making any changes in the development control regulations (DCR) to allow additional FSI in the future till it complies with solid waste management rules.

Hospitals and educational institutions have been exempted from the restrictions.

“Concerns were raised over the issue of a stay order of the high court on new constructions in the city. Considering the fact that the issue needs to be resolved before closing of the bidding process, MMRDA decided to withdraw the ongoing bidding process for the time being. Bids will be re-invited at a later stage when both the above stated issues are resolved,” said MMRDA in a statement, on Tuesday.
