BJP may be revelling in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bonhomie with US President Barack Obama, but ally Shiv Sena in a sarcastic take has asked if Mr Obama will shift to India when his term in office gets over. The Sena also slammed the US for pursuing a “dual policy” towards India and Pakistan on the issue of terrorism.

“US President has become a good friend of PM Modi. Their relationship is so deep that we wonder if the Obama family will shift to Surat, Rajkot, Porbandar, Manali, Mahabaleshwar or Delhi post his retirement. No other Indian PM would have got so much love from an American President in the past,” the Sena said in an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana on Thursday. It was referring to the recent US visit of the Prime Minister and his speech in the Congress .

The Sena also pointed to what it sees as America’s changing stands on India and Pakistan. The party said Mr Modi thanking America for standing by India during its hour of need is only an example of his courteous nature. “But, it is the same America, which has not stopped its policy of helping Pakistan financially or providing them with arms and ammunition,” the Sena said. “On one hand, America helps India to fight terrorism and on the other, sells F-16 fighter jets to the terrorist nation. This policy of America is dangerous. Obama warned Pakistan after Pathankot attack to take stern action. But who is going to take action ” it questioned.

Criticising the “dual diplomacy” of the superpower, the Sena said, “America entered Pakistan without intimation and killed Osama Bin Laden and Taliban chief Mullah Mansoor Akhtar. America can kill its own enemies entering into the foreign country and only gives warnings when it comes to India. This duplicity needs to be understood.”

The Sena was referring to Mr Obama’s message to Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pathankot attack. In it, the US President had asked Pakistan to punish the perpetrators of the attack and vowed to stand with India against terror threats emanating from Pakistan-based groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and D-company.
