Western Railway mail express schedule goes awry due to derailment
Eleven wagons of a Western Railway (WR) mail express train on its way to Moradabad from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) were derailed at about 2.50 am on July 4.
Eleven wagons of a Western Railway (WR) mail express train on its way to Moradabad from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) were derailed at about 2.50 am on July 4. While none of the passengers were injured, the accident impacted 60 per cent of mail express trains getting into and out of the city.
Officials said both inward and outward mail express trains were diverted onto a single track because of which all mail express trains experienced massive delays. As many as 29 mail express trains leaving Mumbai and nine trains coming into the city were cancelled on Monday alone. The repercussions of the derailment will be felt for the next couple of days with four mail express trains coming into the city on Tuesday and Wednesday each, cancelled.
“This derailment is not going to be taken lightly as it has happened just a month after the previous one. The fear is that one day, one of these trains might be filled with passengers and we might not be as lucky as this time as far as injuries go,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
