The state government has issued a notification asking the transport department to use Automatic Traffic Classification And Counting (ATCC), which uses cameras to count the number of vehicles in the city.
The notification said that until now the vehicles counted by people in the city are prone to human error but the ATCC will remove these errors. ‘It has been noticed that the vehicle count by manpower often leads to incorrect information.
This in turn affects policymaking and planning in the state,’ said a government resolution (GR) dated June 24.
The GR has further went on to say that the state transport authority should use the ATCC system and bring out a new report with the exact figures and present it to the state as soon as possible.
Every district and zones (RTO) has been asked for a report for the same and have been asked to co-ordinate with the chief area officer in that area, before the final compilations of the report are to be submitted.
The ATCC has recently entered the Indian market. The software essentially marks a vehicle and classifies its type; it has become popular as no one can tamper with the data collected once it is recorded into the system.
