In the absence of case studies in the US for cancer, researchers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), US, will be coming to India and undertaking cancer research. As per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Tata Cancer Hospital (TCH) on Wednesday, NCI will be sharing the outcome of their research and treatment in return for case studies to be provided by TCH.
Dr Rajendra Badwe, director, Tata Memorial Centre, said, “This MoU emphasises the research part, which will help us and NCI learn more. This will ultimately benefit people in the form of appropriate treatment.”
He added: “The MoU will make available an unprecedented international dataset to advance cancer research and care as well as treatment. This includes development of collaborative research projects on population-based cancer control and implementation science; in the areas of basic and epidemiological research, pre-clinical model development, and clinical research,” he said.
Dr Timbre, who signed the MoU on behalf of NCI, said, “We don’t have sufficient case studies on, say, gall bladder cancer; this cancer is very rare in the US, but in India, it is most common in the northeast. We will get to know and study this.”
