Unknown persons stab to death repeat offender

An accused in a 25-year-old murder case was stabbed to death in Malad late Thursday night. Police has registered a case in the matter and investigation is underway.

An accused in a 25-year-old murder case was stabbed to death in Malad late Thursday night. Police has registered a case in the matter and investigation is underway. Police sources said four to five unknown men stabbed the victim, Jairam Nadar alias Jairam Anna (48), in the Vanlai area of Malad (west) near Orlem church when he was stationing his two-wheeler.

Preliminary police investigation has revealed that Nadar was killed owing to business rivalry or business dispute. Top officials refuse to comment on the issue directly saying investigation is still on. At the same time, they have not rejected the possibility of murder due to the past criminal record of the deceased.

According to police sources, at around 10.30pm on Thursday when Nadar was present in Vanlai area, four to five unknown men attacked him with a sickle and knife. He sustained grievous injuries near his chest, waist and hand and was immediately rushed to the hospital by locals who saw him lying in a pool of blood after the attackers fled from the scene. Doctors pronounced him dead upon reaching the hospital. Officials are now checking CCTV footage of the area. Further, the watchman of Sai Complex building was picked up by the police for questioning as the incident occurred in front of this building.

Police officials said Nadar had three criminal cases registered against him between 1980 and 1991. The last criminal case lodged against him was that or murdering a bus conductor, who he allegedly stabbed in 1991 in Malad. Officials will be checking the case files to understand if there is a connection. Nadar had a plating business and is survived by a wife and one son.
