The Thadomal Shahani Centre of Management has launched a ‘Unity in Diversity’ campaign that aims to reach out to students as well as corporates to provide better career opportunities.

The goal of the initiative is to bring down religious and gender bias for the upliftment of the society and the nation. The campaign was launched by Dr Hanifa Mezoui, chief of the NGO section of the department of Economic and Social Affairs (ECOSOC) at the United Nations last week.

After announcing the collaboration of UN Alliance of Civilizations and the Shahani Group for the Unit in Diversity initiative, Dr Mezoui said, “I will welcome any NGO ready to hear what is happening right now at the UN, what are the new priorities under the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). How can civil society make the difference We are going from commitment to results.”

Elaborating on the objectives of the India launch, Maya Shahani, who will be heading the India chapter of Unity in Diversity said, “We will be forming a ‘National Steering Committee’ in India, which will coordinate continuous collaboration among civil society, private business sector, governments, religions, spiritual organisations, and work towards building inclusive societies.”

“We will also work to establish a grassroots ‘Community Leadership Team’, which will work with local communities in creating and implementing projects to strengthen civil society via dialogue and understanding and work on laying the foundation of the Policy of the Indian Unity in Diversity — World Civil Society Assembly and to create the first action plan based on this policy,” Ms Shahani added.

Throwing light on the role of the Shahani group, Akhil Shahani, managing director, The Shahani Group, said, “Our institutions have always encouraged our students to have an inclusive mindset that allows them to work well with people from other backgrounds.”

“Our work with the United Nations and Global Dialogue Foundation enables us to extend our educational reach to promote this mindset in civil society at large,” he added.
