Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday praised late socialist leader Mrinal Gore though the party shared an uneasy relationship with her, while inaugurating the city’s second double-decker flyover which connects Goregaon (east) to Goregaon (west). The bridge has been named after Gore after the Sena suggested it.
The late socialist leader, corporator and Member of Parliament (MP) from Goregaon had shared a not-so-cordial relationship with the late Sena supreme Bal Thackeray over their ideological differences. Gore was known for her fight for the cause of drinking water for Goregaon back in 1970s, during the initial days of Shiv-Sena. However, there were times when senior Thackeray had praised Gore for being loyal to her cause of fighting for drinking water in spite of facing adversities.
Speaking during the inauguration of the double-decker flyover Uddhav said, “We did not name the flyover after Gore just for the show of it. I appeal to all my party workers to follow her ideology on working towards people’s causes in a dedicated manner.”
The flyover is located near the under-construction Oshiwara station and the project was undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at a cost of Rs 255 crore to provide better connectivity in Goregaon which is developing at a faster pace when compared with other places in western suburbs.
Recalling early memories about Gore, Uddhav said “I used to read about the work done by Gore in my childhood days when she was the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. She never relied on information given by others but always went to check out the ground scenario.”
