Two held for killing businessman

A 20-year-old youth and his aide have been arrested for allegedly murdering a 38-year-old small-time businessman from Andheri (west) Wednesday night over a past personal enmity.

A 20-year-old youth and his aide have been arrested for allegedly murdering a 38-year-old small-time businessman from Andheri (west) Wednesday night over a past personal enmity.

The arrested youth, the police said, before attacking the deceased, yelled out aloud that it was a revenge attack for past assaults.

According to the DN Nagar police, the incident occurred around 8.30 pm when the deceased Ramu Nagappa Dhotre was standing near his residence in Gilbert Hill. Dhotre runs a transport business.

At the time of the incident, Dhotre was accompanied by his brother Yellapa (36). The main accused Taufiq Abdul Hussain (20) and his aide Abdul Mohammad Hussain (25) went up to them and Taufiq is said to have attacked Dhotre on his neck with a sharp knife.

Taufiq is said to have yelled out aloud that he was taking revenge for some multiple attacks made on him in the past by Dhotre. Dhotre’s brother Yellapa tried to stop the duo but he too was attacked with the same knife, the police said.

The shouts of the deceased and his brother alerted local residents who caught both the accused.

They were later handed over to the police. It is also reliably learnt from the police that Taufiq has a prior criminal record. Both the accused is said to have been in an inebriated condition at the time of murder.

Dhotre and Yellapa were rushed to Cooper Hospital where the former was declared dead. Yellapa is said to be serious. Dhotre is survived by his wife and a five-year-old daughter

Police inspector Balwant Deshmukh of DN Nagar police confirmed the development.

A case of murder has been registered under the Indian Penal Code and the duo was produced before a magistrate’s court which remanded them to police custody.

A panchnama has been conducted at the murder spot and the police has collected the murder weapon. The police has recorded the statements of Yellapa. The body has been handed over to the family after conducting a postmortem at the Cooper Hospital. The police has conducted medical tests on both the accused.
