Tulinj cops book 5 Mandals for playing loud music

The Tulinj police of Nallasopara area registered a case against five Sarvajanik Ganpati mandals for playing loud music and violating the guidelines issued for the Ganesh festival.

The Tulinj police of Nallasopara area registered a case against five Sarvajanik Ganpati mandals for playing loud music and violating the guidelines issued for the Ganesh festival. According to police officials, three out of these five mandals have been penalised, while investigation is on against the other two. Officials said the court had issued guidelines about the timing and intensity of music played during the festival.

An official from the Tulinj police station said 205 mandals had asked for permission to set up Ganpati pandal in the jurisdiction of Tulinj police station. At the time of granting them permission, the police had given a list of guidelines to the organisers.

A senior official said that a special police team formed to keep an eye on possible violators, and these five mandals were, during a routine patrol, found to be guilty of playing music loudly.

Following this, the police informed the local court, which in turn gave a direction to fine them Rs 3,000 each, under the Mumbai Police Act. The names of the mandals found to be in violation have been withheld by the police.

Similarly, the Borivali police also registered a case against the president of a Ganpati mandal and a DJ owner for playing loud music at a place located on the Shantivan Ashram road of Gorai area.
