The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed a tentative fare slabs for four proposed Metro corridors namely Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A, DN Nagar-Mandale Metro-2B, Wadala-Thane-Kasaradvali-Thane Metro-4 corridor and Dahisar east- Andheri east Metro-7 corridor where Rs 10 will be the minimum fare, and the fare will increase by Rs 10 after every 6-km.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), that is giving technical assistance to the MMRDA of executing Metro projects in the city, has suggested the fare slab to the MMRDA.
“For now, the fare slab was tabled in the authority meeting that was attended by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other members of the authority,” said a senior MMRDA official.
Currently, the fare table for the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) that operates Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) Metro-1 corridor ranges from Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 30 to Rs 40 for asingle trip of 11.4-km. However, discount is given to commuters who use smart cards. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) that is implementing the 33-km-long Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-underground corridor, has however, proposed fare ranging between Rs 11 and Rs 37.
“The proposed far slabs has been forwarded to the state government and we expect to fix the proposed far slab after the approval from the government that will be notified under the Central Metro Act, of 2009,” added the MMRDA official.
The MMRDA plans to start work after monsoons on both the Metro-2A and Metro-7 for which the contractors have already been short-listed. In case of Metro-7, the on ground soil testing has already begun. The Metro-2B and Metro-4 projects are yet to go through the tendering procedure and the same is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
