A 12-year-old boy studying in class 8 was allegedly beaten and abused by his schoolteacher for chatting with his friends. He had been beaten earlier over spelling mistakes.

The parents of the victim, Sachin Khade, immediately approached the Nerul police station on Saturday to lodge a complaint against NMMC school teacher Ravindra Fofale. According to police officials, they said that this was the second time the same teacher had beaten Sachin badly.

“When my son reached home from school, his eye was swollen and he had black and blue marks all over his hands. First we thought that he must have been in a fight, but then he told us that he didn’t want to go to school because his teacher had always beat him badly. We didn’t know about the previous incident,” said parents to the police.

The police further said the boy and his friend were talking to each other when the teacher was checking papers in the classroom.

Getting disturbed by the chatter, he took a long stick and went towards Sachin’s bench and started beating him, stating that he always talked in the classroom.

It was found that the teacher resides near Navi Mumbai and has been teaching in the school for the past three years. “After counselling and scrutinising the case, a medical test of the child was carried out at the government hospital after which they lodged a complain in Nerul police station against the teacher,” a police officer said.

Following the complaint by Sachin’s parents, the police registered an offence under Section 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt) and 504 of the Indian Penal Code and said that a probe was on.
