On the eve of Moharrum, the first Islamic month, Maulana Mirza Mohammad Ashfaq, who will be delivering sermons eulogising the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Holy Prophet at Masjid e-Iranian, Bhendi Bazar said that those promoting terror in the name of Islam were not Muslims and should be spurned.

Mr Ashfaq who replaces his elder brother Mr Mirza Mohammad Athar who held a 58-year record for delivering sermons at the same venue added that he would be highlighting the fact that Islam was based on peace and love for the entire humanity but some vested interests had been using individuals with extremist views to malign and tarnish the image of religion.

“The Prophet introduced Islam as a religion of peace and love for humanity but after his demise the message was misinterpreted by vested interests due to which Islam was perceived as a religion of aggression and intolerance. This perception is being used even today to create hatred and animosity among the people. The Moharrum sermons eulogises the sacrifice of Imam Hussain,” said Mr Ashfaq.
